My start in VFX and Video Editing, all came 3 years ago, when I was a freelance video editor for the Rocket League community. Throughout my time working with over 50 members of the community, I managed to make it to the top. Editing for the biggest freestyle community on YouTube, RLFX.

What is RLFX?

ROCKET LEAGUE FX is a YouTube channel focused on montage-style videos, highlights, and clips from the video game Rocket League. Their content includes spectacular moments: “freestyles,” “impossible goals,” saves, redirects, fails, and other exciting gameplay moments. RLFX has a sizable following: according to a recent audit, the channel has around 431,000 subscribers and a large archive of videos (500+). Their videos are described as “the home of Rocket League montages.”

Highly edited compilations of top gameplay — best goals, most impressive moves, biggest fails, and general “intense/reaction-worthy” Rocket League moments.

How did I make it to the top?

  1. Passion: I, as many teenagers do, had a massive passion for gaming, especially after the COVID lockdown. This then made the desire to be one of the greats even bigger. I started off as playing the game, and once I realised I didn't want to spend all my time behind the controller, I decided to try and improve the recognition of the game, by editing and making video's for other members.

  2. Dedication: I have made over 60+ montages, which all together would have taken me over 1000 hours to complete. Over this time I also managed to make over £1600 from over 20 clients and 20 organisations. After every montage I made, I made sure to add them to my portfolio and made sure that they were the best I could make to try and entice others into purchasing my services.

  3. Members of the community: Over my time in the Rocket League community, I have met some incredible people, such as people who I looked up to, as some of the editing greats, as well as general friends who I could talk to in the community. The included Echodex, STA, and Poofers.

  4. help from mentors - Listening to advice from others really aloud me to be able to handle the basics of video editing. However I was one of the most unique, and in some ways, disliked members within the community because I didn't follow the standard 'rules'. However me developing my own style over 2 years, allowed me to be recognised by some of the rocket league legends, such as RLFX and Professional RLCS Players, Aresnal.
